Itanagar, Dec 01: The Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and the Arunachal Press Club (APC) on Monday elected new office bearers, ushering in fresh leadership for the state’s media community.
Senior journalist Dodum Yangfo, editor-in-chief of The Dawnlit Post with two decades of experience, was elected unopposed as president of APUWJ. The Arunachal Times sub-editor Amar Sangno, who has 16 years of experience in journalism, also secured the APC presidency unopposed, reflecting strong confidence in his leadership. Both Yangfo and Sangno are state gold medal awardees in journalism.
The general secretary posts saw active contests. Sonam Jelly, sub-editor at The Arunachal Pioneer with 10 years of experience, was elected general secretary of APUWJ. NewsFy editor Damien Lepcha, who has 11 years of experience in the media, was elected general secretary of APC after a competitive ballot. Lepcha also serves as associate editor of The Arunachal Pioneer and state correspondent for Hindustan Times.
The election, held at the APC premises, was supervised by senior journalists Mukul Pathak and Appu Gapak, who served as chief election commissioner and returning officer respectively. Deputy editor of The Arunachal Times Tongam Rina acted as observer to ensure transparency and fairness.
The newly elected team thanked the journalist fraternity for its trust and pledged to work collectively for the welfare of media persons, uphold professional ethics and strengthen the quality of journalism in the state. They also expressed commitment to addressing the challenges faced by journalists and to advocating for a stronger institutional framework to safeguard press freedom in Arunachal Pradesh.
