Chum Darang joins East Siang Police’s Project Muskaan as Child Safety Ambassador

PASIGHAT, 06 Dec 2025: East Siang Police has officially inducted renowned actor, model and entrepreneur Chum Darang as the Child Safety Ambassador of Project Muskaan, giving a major boost to the district’s ongoing child protection and community awareness initiatives.

Project Muskaan, launched on 11 November 2025, is a flagship child safety programme aimed at empowering school children through awareness on Good Touch–Bad Touch, provisions of the POCSO Act and JJ Act, bullying prevention, and cyber safety. Under the project, trained police personnel conduct weekly school visits, interact with students, and demonstrate emergency reporting mechanisms. To ensure safer access to help, Police Complaint Boxes have been installed in 55 schools so far.

Till date, the initiative has reached 8,300+ students across 69 schools, with continuous training and feedback sessions being conducted to enhance programme effectiveness.

With her influence as a nationally recognised youth icon from Arunachal Pradesh, Chum Darang’s participation is expected to significantly expand Project Muskaan’s outreach. Her strong connect with school-going children and teenagers will play a crucial role in encouraging students to report concerns, understand their rights, and speak up with confidence. She will also engage with parents, teachers and communities to reinforce the message that child safety is a collective responsibility.

East Siang Police has extended a warm welcome to Chum Darang, expressing confidence that her involvement will inspire greater community participation and help build a safer and more informed environment for every child.

The programme was attended by East Siang SP Pankaj Lamba, IPS; CO 5th IRBn Garima, IPS; SDPO Pasighat Dr Akanksha, IPS; DySP (HQ) Ayup Boko; OC WPS Amum Panyang; and other police personnel.
