Two missing Anjaw youths yet to return home; families seek Centre’s intervention

ITANAGAR, Nov 08: The family members of two missing youth of Anjaw district are still waiting for them to return home and have sought intervention of the Centre in this regard.

It has been two-and-a-half months after the youths from Anjaw went missing and they are yet to be traced.

The two youths, Bayingso Manyu, 35 years and Bateilum Tikro, 33 years, had set out towards the deep forest of the district on August 19 in search of medicinal plants. They carried with them bedding, traditional sickle and a bag of rice that could last for 15 days.

Bayingso Manyu is from Chiprugam village under Goliang Circle in 45th Hayuliang constituency, located on top of a mountain near the National Highway 113 while Bateilum Tikro is from Duliang village under the same circle.

It was on October 9 that the family members had lodged a missing complaint in the nearest police station at Khupa village.

The family members of the duo approached the police as they suspected that the two youths might have crossed over to China inadvertently. The relatives of Tikro and Manyu have appealed to the State and central governments and the Indian Army to trace the missing duo. They were last spotted by locals on August 24, 2022.

“He used to go hunting earlier also or to collect herbs and other leafy vegetables to sell in the market. It usually took only 8 to 10 days for him to return back. This is the first time that he went missing for so many days. We, from our family side, have tried our best to reach out to the authorities seeking help in search for him,” Bayingso Manyu’s elder brother Maniso Manyu said.

Talo Jerang, the Deputy Commissioner of Anjaw, said the district administration received the information of the missing youths on October 10. “I came to know that on August 19, they set out from their house to go towards the Chaglagam area in search of herbs and medicinal plants. They sell these plants in the market to earn income for their families. On August 24, some of my staff saw them in the Rosam area near the Chaglagam border. From these staff, I was confirmed and getting hints that they reached the international border,” Jerang said.

“After I received the missing information, I directed the SP of Anjaw district to register the missing report. Lookout notices have been distributed to every police station in the State and the neighboring State of Assam. All the Circle Officers of Anjaw district, the public of this whole area have been informed and instructed. We have asked them to use their own local source to trace these youths. I have contacted and met the Brigadier of the Indian Army of the 181 Mountain Brigade,” the DC added.

“I have requested them since this Chaglagam area comes under their command, to use their source and to use their local source to trace these missing youths. In Wallong, there is another 82 Mountain Brigade and I have requested the Brigadier to help trace these missing youths through their local source. From my side, I have engaged many local sources to trace them. Gaon Burahs, administration officers, SP, OC and others to get clues of these missing youths,” Jerang further asserted.

Dasanglu Pul, who is the MLA of 45th Hayuliang constituency, has confirmed the missing of these two youths. She informed that she has contacted Arunachal East MP Tapir Gao to take up the matter with the Union government. She also informed that she has contacted Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to talk with the Chinese counterpart as there are apprehensions that these youths have been abducted by the PLA, as they might have crossed the international border unintentionally.

Earlier, while speaking to this daily, the MP Gao said, “The matter of the two youths missing from Anjaw came to me a few days back. As per information, the youths have been reportedly missing from Chaglagam circle along the Indo-China border area since August 24 last. The locals started searching for them but their whereabouts could not be located.”

“I have taken up the issue with the Union government on October 1. I met Union Minister of State for Border Affairs, N Pramanik and informed him about the issue and requested him to take up the issue,” Gao said.

He also informed earlier that on October 12, he had met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and discussed the issue and informed him of the details of the incident.

He also informed that he had requested Union Minister Singh to take up the issue at the highest level and also with the Minister of External Affairs for liaising with his Chinese counterpart to locate the whereabouts of the two Arunachalee youths.But after waiting for two-and-a-half months, the families of both the youths have again requested the State and central governments to bring back Bayingso Manyu and Bateilum Tikro home soon.
