IMC Mayor conducts ward inspections, assures support for sanitation workers

Itanagar, June 26: Mayor Tamme Phassang of the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Thursday led a thorough inspection of several municipal wards, accompanied by IMC Commissioner Kego Jilen, Corporators, Engineers, and officials. The team visited Ward Nos. 17, 14, 4, and 2 to assess civic conditions and interact directly with IMC frontline staff.

The initiative aimed to strengthen communication between administration and field workers, and to ensure responsive municipal governance. During the visit, sanitation workers voiced serious concerns about low wages and challenging work conditions.

“We start our day early, working hard to keep the city clean, yet our wages are very low,” said one worker. The Mayor, moved by the appeal, assured them of his full support.

“I deeply respect the commitment of our sanitation staff and will raise this issue with Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Chief Minister Pema Khandu to ensure their concerns are addressed,” he said.

Earlier, the Mayor visited Ganga Daily Market, where he observed issues related to traffic congestion, lack of parking space, and poor cleanliness. He called for coordinated action to improve market infrastructure and hygiene for the benefit of vendors and the public.
