SSA govt teacher arrested with heroin in Aalo during Operation Dawn 2.0 raid

Aalo, June 24: In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking in Arunachal Pradesh, West Siang Police arrested a government school teacher with heroin during a targeted raid under Operation Dawn 2.0 in Aalo.

The accused, Bili Potom, an IT teacher appointed under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in 2023 and posted at Government Secondary School, Pakam, was caught with 8.71 grams of suspected heroin, three syringes, and ₹13,100 in cash—believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

The Anti-Drug Squad (ADS), led by Inspector Yomken Riram (OC PS Aalo) and acting on specific intelligence inputs, conducted multiple raids in the Pakam III area. During the operation, Potom was detained from an OBT quarter. Upon interrogation, he admitted to being both a drug addict and a peddler operating for nearly two years.

The search and seizure were carried out in the presence of Executive Magistrate Jumkar Karbi and two independent witnesses. A case has been registered at Aalo Police Station (Case No. 35/25) under Sections 21(b)/27 of the NDPS Act. Potom has been arrested and is under sustained interrogation to trace the supply chain and identify any co-accused.

Speaking on the arrest, the Superintendent of Police, West Siang, expressed concern over the involvement of a government servant in drug trafficking and reiterated the police department’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the district. He also appealed to the public to cooperate in the ongoing anti-drug efforts.

This arrest highlights the growing concern of drug abuse in Arunachal Pradesh and the need for stronger vigilance, especially when public servants are found involved in such illegal activities.
